TELUS investing $5 million to connect Village of Pemberton homes and businesses directly to advanced fibre optic network
Direct fibre connection will dramatically boost data capacity, providing local homes and businesses access to the gigabit-enabled TELUS PureFibre network
Pemberton, B.C. – TELUS and the Village of Pemberton are collaborating to bring the world`s most advanced communications infrastructure to residents and businesses in the area. In addition to TELUS` investment, the Village of Pemberton and the local development community are investing $250,000 to connect more than 90 per cent of homes and businesses in Pemberton directly to the gigabit-enabled TELUS PureFibre network. Planning work is currently underway, and TELUS anticipates connecting all new developments in the Village by the end of this year, and the remainder of homes and businesses in 2019.
Pemberton’s contribution towards the infrastructure was made possible through generous contributions from Pemberton’s development community; Alpi Group, Alture Properties (Crestline), The Ridge at Pemberton (580049 BC Ltd.), Sunstone Ridge Developments Ltd., and Tiyata Village at Pemberton.
At no cost to the Village’s tax base, this infrastructure project will connect each home and business directly to the TELUS PureFibre network, future proofing each premise with access to blazing fast Internet speeds and enough bandwidth for generations to come.
The gigabit-enabled TELUS PureFibre network is among the most advanced communications infrastructure available in the world today, enabling residents to immediately take advantage of dramatically faster Internet speeds of at least 150 megabits per second, while businesses, schools, healthcare providers and other institutions can access even more speed and capacity. The TELUS PureFibre network offers symmetrical service, which means customers can upload just as fast as they download, which provides significant benefits for applications like video conferencing, home security, gaming and remote healthcare. As demand and Internet technologies evolve in the coming years the TELUS PureFibre network will continuously offer faster speeds and more capacity.
This new fibre optic infrastructure will also be the backbone of TELUS’ wireless network, enabling more wireless capacity and faster speeds throughout the region, and laying the groundwork for 5G technologies in the years ahead.
This investment is part of TELUS’ commitment to invest $4.7 billion throughout British Columbia between 2017 and 2020, at no cost to taxpayers. A direct connection to the PureFibre network comes at no cost to residents, nor is there any obligation to purchase TELUS services once connected.
