Transfer effective June 1, 2019; Current Service Levels Maintained
Pemberton, BC – The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) and the Village of
Pemberton (Village) have finalized the transfer of management of the Pemberton and District
Recreation Service (Service), effective as of June 1, 2019 for a five-year term.
The process for transferring management of the Service from the SLRD to the Village was first
announced in the spring of 2018, with final approval by the SLRD Board and Village Council
occurring in late 2018.
Effective June 1, 2019, the Village will assume responsibility for managing the Service, and all
Service staff members will become employees of the Village. There is no impact on recreation
services or operations, and ownership of recreation assets in the Service remain unchanged.
The current funding model and governance structure are also maintained.
The Service’s programming information will be located on the Village website. Facebook
accounts for the Pemberton & District Community Centre (@Pemrec) and The Rec
(@TheRecPYC) will remain the same.

About the Pemberton and District Recreation Service
The Pemberton and District Recreation Service is currently operated by the Squamish-Lillooet
Regional District and funded by SLRD Electoral Area C and the Village of Pemberton. It
operates and programs the Pemberton & District Community Centre, the Youth and Senior
Centre, Pemberton Meadows and Signal Hill fields, the new soccer field on Pemberton Farm
Road East, as well as Gates Lake Community Park. The Recreation Service is overseen by the
Pemberton Valley Utilities and Services Committee (PVUS), which is a committee of the SLRD
Board convened to discuss recreation and other shared services between SLRD Electoral Area
C and the Village of Pemberton.
