As the Regular Council Meeting, held on October 2nd, 2018, Village Council adopted a Non-Medical (Recreational) Cannabis Retail Policy.
The Non-Medical (Recreational) Cannabis Policy identifies the requirements for the sales of non medical (recreational) cannabis in the Village of Pemberton. In particular, the protocol includes the jurisdiction, definitions, policy related to land use and zoning and includes Village requirements related to the business licence application requirements and approval procedures.
Once a referral is received from the Province, the Village will notify those located within 100m of a proposed retail location to sell Recreational Cannabis, and gather their feedback before considering whether to offer their support for a provincial licence. The Village will also notify the community about a potential location through two consecutive ads placed in a local publication and through its website.
Securing the Village’s recommendation of support is one of the first steps necessary for the Liquor and Cannabis Control Branch to continue to process an application. Applicants will also be required to meet the rest of the Province’s criteria before a licence may be issued.
The Village of Pemberton gave First and Second Reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 837, 2018 to permit Retail Cannabis in the C-1 Zone under Certain Conditions of Use. If passed, up to two (2) retail cannabis businesses will be able to locate their business in the Village’s Town Centre Commercial (C-1) zone, as long as they fall outside the 150m buffer from Schools, the Community Centre, Skateboard Park and other youth oriented locations.
A Public Hearing for Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 847, 2018 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, at 7:00pm and Village residents are encourage to attend to HAVE THEIR SAY regarding this Zoning Bylaw Amendment.
