Campfire Ban Lifted in All Regions of the Coastal Fire Centre

Posted on August 28, 2024

Due to recent rainfall and cooler, more seasonal temperatures, BC Wildfire Service will be lifting the Campfire Ban for all regions of the Coastal Fire Centre area, beginning at noon, August 28, 2024.

Although the fire danger has declined in the Coastal Fire Centre, community members are strongly encouraged to continue exercising extreme caution with any campfire.

Here a few safety tips to enjoy a campfire responsibly:

  1. Keep it Small: Your campfire should be no larger than 0.5 meters high by 0.5 meters wide.
  2. Choose the Right Spot: Set your campfire in a designated fire pit or a safe, open area—away from anything that might catch fire.
  3. Never Leave it Unattended: Always have someone keeping an eye on the fire.
  4. Water on Hand: Make sure you have water or a shovel nearby to put out the fire quickly if needed.
  5. Put it Out Completely: Before you leave, double-check that the fire is fully out and the ashes are cool to the touch.

Note: Should conditions change a ban may be reinstated by BC Wildfire Service. Please note, the Campfire Ban in Whistler remains in effect.
