A MESSAGE TO VILLAGE OF PEMBERTON RESIDENTS FROM MAYOR MIKE RICHMAN
Hi everyone,
Please take the time to read the important updated information regarding Mount Currie posted at www.pemberton.ca.
Although, this initial information may seem unclear, please understand that we are in the beginning of a fact-finding mission and we will be pursuing a study to gain further clarity.
Upon receiving the Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operation's (MFLNRO) Information Briefing at the SLRD Board Meeting yesterday, we began reaching out to Emergency Management BC (EMBC) and local partners to determine the immediate next steps and to advocate for Provincial funding so we can begin this study right away. I also contacted our MLA Jordan Sturdy who, of course, committed his support. All efforts are in coordination with SLRD and Lil'wat Nation. Our main focus is to better understand the recent activity on Mount Currie and how to ensure the safety of our Valley.
Once we had a handle on the information provided in the briefing, we wanted to share it with the public, and be accessible to you to answer questions and hear your concerns. I'm sure we don't have all the answers to your questions right now, but we will share any information as it becomes available.
Here are my promises to you while we undergo this process:
- We will be open, transparent and accessible as we learn more
- We will work with our partners to advocate the Province for funding of the study
- We will be available to hear your concerns and field your questions
At this point, it's important not to speculate. I ask that if you are unsure about something or need clarification, that you contact the Village at 604.894.6135, or call me on my cell at 604.966.6309.
Thank you again for taking the time to read through the information we have shared to date; we will be keeping you posted through our communications channels: www.pemberton.ca, our eNews (you can subscribe from our homepage) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/VillageofPemberton).
I will be in touch soon.
Best regards,
Mike
